When women lead, we all succeed

Toronto, ON – Throughout March and April, Segal played a meaningful and integral role in a variety of women‑focused initiatives, programs and events. From celebrating the remarkable contributions women have made to providing the resources to empower women as leaders, here’s a recap of our firm’s most recent activities.

In March, we marked Women’s History Month – which includes International Women's Day on March 8 – with a special female Partner panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities related to women in leadership. It was no surprise this event was a huge success, as firm Partners Candy Hsieh, Natalia Glavina, Rishma Jessa and Dora Mariani candidly shared their insightful and deeply inspiring stories about their personal career journeys. Moderated by Judy Cheng, one of our firm’s Principals, this discussion was both educational and entertaining, providing valuable life lessons and practical career advice to motivate and empower the next generation of women leaders within our firm.

As this year’s International Women’s Day theme was “Inspire Inclusion,” one of the core elements of the occasion was the continued need for investing in women. Being part of the Moore North America network, our firm had an opportunity to do exactly that through the Moore Leadhership1® program. This highly regarded training program is aimed at guiding and supporting female professionals as they strive to advance beyond entry‑level management positions – a particularly challenging stage for women due to gender barriers and inequality. A group of six women from our firm completed the Leadhership1® program’s curriculum, helping them advance their careers and rise to management and senior positions. Looking ahead, we’re delighted to announce another group of women from our firm will be participating in the next session of the program in June.

More recently, on April 9, several female team members from our firm attended the Top 25 Women of Influence® Awards, a celebration of women making a positive impact and driving change. The event served to honour the unique achievements and contributions of women across a diverse range of business sectors and career stages. The opportunity to see so many incredible individuals recognized for the different and unique ways in which they have led meaningful progress in business or society was truly inspiring. As a firm, we look forward to participating in many more of these award events.

While these are a few notable highlights reflecting our commitment to gender parity, our firm continues to seek out new and effective ways to build a more inclusive and equitable professional environment. Great strides have been made, but there is always room for improvement as we strive to foster a world in which every individual is judged on their abilities and merits, without prejudice or bias.
